Re-designing A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man.

A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man is a classic novel that depicts the trials of the author’s fictional counterpart discovering who he is. I chose it for the subject of this project. The goal was to create a new This project takes the climax of the story and imagines it in a new graphic and physical way. I used this as an opportunity to play of the main themes and motifs of the text. The book unfolds each piece as the main character, Stephen Dadelus, reaches his epiphany. In this moment, he compares himself to the Greek inventor that is his namesake, and sees he no longer has to prison himself away from art and writing, but rather embrace it as a part of who he is. Flipping the piece over reveals the complete portrait.
